1. Does the City of Edmond have public severe weather shelters?

No. For many reasons, but primarily focusing on the safety of our citizens, the city does not open any public buildings as public pre-event severe weather shelters.

2. Does the City of Edmond operate a tornado siren system?

Yes, the city has a very robust and expansive Outdoor Warning Device system. It is intended to warn those outdoors, who may not have other means of warning. The system is activated when there is a credible threat approaching the city, and we expect our citizens to take shelter immediately. Then, they can obtain more details about the approaching weather. The system is tested the first Saturday of every month at noon.

3. What should I do to prepare for emergencies?

Have a plan on how to deal with the various emergencies that occur in Oklahoma. Also, have an emergency supply kit that will provide for your needs for three days, practice your emergency plan, and stay informed regarding hazards and risks.
