Work on the Ayers Concrete Pavement Reconstruction Project will result in a partial closure of the intersection of Chowning Avenue and Ayers Street near the University of Central Oklahoma campus beginning June 15.
Resumption of work on that project will begin with the closure of the southern half of the intersection and reduce Ayers to one lane, allowing access to the UCO Dining Facility. Once that phase of the project is completed, the northern half of the intersection will be closed.
Work is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete, with cooperative weather, and allowances will be made to accommodate the Libertyfest July 4 parade.
This part of the $1.7 million reconstruction project is a joint effort between the City of Edmond and UCO.
To help mitigate the impact to traffic in that area, trenching work on Chowning – part of the ongoing Danforth Water Line project – will be halted and temporary repairs to the streets will be in place to allow public use.
During this temporary halt to the Chowning trenching, work will continue on eastbound Wayne Street, between Chowning and Blackwelder avenues. That area will remain closed while work on the water line project is completed, and southbound Blackwelder Avenue, between Wayne and Ayers streets, also will be closed. Trenching work in that area will be completed in intermittent phases, to mitigate the impact to traffic flow and accommodate access to residences in the area.
Motorists are asked to note the impacts and adjust their routes and travel schedule accordingly.
