About Outdoor Warning Devices
Outdoor warning devices or sirens are systems designed to provide an audible alert for those persons who are outdoors. The system is not designed to provide warnings to citizens already indoors. The function of the siren is to alert residents to take immediate shelter and tune a television or radio for local information on current conditions.
Activation of Outdoor Warning Devices
Situations when the City of Edmond activates its outdoor warning devices are as follows:
- High wind warnings for Arcadia Lake or when a severe thunderstorm is approaching the lake to provide severe weather warning for campers and other lake visitors
- Tornado warnings when a tornado has been sighted or indicated on radar and is potentially threatening the City of Edmond
Siren Testing
All sirens are tested on the first Saturday of each month at 12:00 noon. Tests are not conducted when the possibility of severe weather is present.
