Automotive Fluid & Battery Disposal


Automotive fluids and batteries are considered household hazardous waste (HHW) and it is illegal to throw these products away with the rest of your household trash, or illegally dump in stormdrains and waterways, as these substances pose a threat to our environment. Conveniently, Edmond offers residents two options for the disposal of automotive fluids and batteries, as well as other items that qualify as household hazardous waste (HHW):

1) City of Oklahoma City's HHW Collection Facility:
 
Edmond has an agreement with Oklahoma City that allows our residents to use their Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Facility located at 1621 S Portland Ave. Just bring a copy of your current utility bill for proof of residency. The disposal fees will be automatically added to your monthly utility bill. The facility accepts the following automotive products:

  • antifreeze
  • auto body filler
  • batteries (auto & motorcycle)
  • brake fluid
  • car cleaners/waxes/chrome polish
  • carburetor cleaner
  • fuel (diesel & gasoline)
  • engine degreaser
  • oil (used or unused)
  • oil filters
  • power steering fluid
  • radiator flushes
  • refrigerants
  • transmission fluid
*Do not pour chemicals into a single container. Leave them in their original packaging as some products can become toxic when mixed.

2) Waste Management's At Your Door Special Collection®

Edmond has an agreement with Waste Management® where each household is entitled to schedule an unlimited amount of HHW curbside pickups each year, and the cost of the service is already included in your regular monthly residential solid waste fee. Automotive Used Tire Disposal


Illegally dumping old tires can provide a haven for pests such as mosquitoes, contribute chemicals and heavy metals to soil and groundwater, and provide a fuel source for wild fires that will release harmful chemicals into the air and cause the fire to be harder to control and extinguish. Fortunately, tires are 100% recyclable! Depending on the situation, there are multiple ways you may responsibly recycle your old tires:

1) For a small amount of tires (2 to 4), contact a local tire dealer. The dealer may accept the tires for recycling for a small disposal/recycling fee of $2.90 per passenger tire:

2) If you have a large amount of tires (4+), contact one of the facilities below to arrange your drop-off. There will be fees involved with this option as well.

3) Keep an eye out for Edmond's annual Operation Clean Community! During this community collection event, Edmond will accept car tires and other items, such as documents for shredding and e-waste (computers/phones). For details, please visit the program's webpage.  

4) If you have been the victim of illegal dumping, please contact the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality's (ODEQ) Used Tire Recycling Program. ODEQ staff will investigate the tire dump site and attempt to locate the individual responsible, and may also be able to assist in the cost of the cleanup.
