Residents, businesses, and organizations can take steps to ensure they are prepared for weather-related incidents. Visit our Weather Preparedness Page to learn more about things to help you stay prepared and safe and access links to valuable information and resources.

General Safety Tips:

  • If road conditions worsen, please limit travel to only essential trips.
  • If using devices to help with heating of homes, be sure to use equipment designed specifically for indoor use.
  • Check to ensure your smoke detectors are operating properly and if using a heating device in your home, a carbon monoxide detector is a valuable additional safeguard.
  • Tips to help prepare and avoid freezing water infrastructure issues can be found here.
  • The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM) reminds motorists to follow the forecast and check current road conditions. Visit www.okroads.org or www.oktraffic.org to check current conditions.
  • Edmond residents seeking non-emergency disaster or health and human service information can dial 2-1-1. Services are available 24 hours a day.

Storm Shelter Registration:

Ensure you are protected by participating in Edmond's Severe Weather Shelter Registration Program. The free and voluntary program allows residents who own a personal severe weather shelter in the Edmond city limits to register their shelter with the City of Edmond. Shelter registration is part of our effort to be proactive in response to rescue situations that can occur as a result of severe weather. To register a storm cellar, safe room, or other personal severe weather shelter, call (405) 359-4564, or register your storm shelter online.
