Virtual Safety Challenge
About
Did you know that preventable injuries are the #1 killer of children in the United States? In an effort to reduce childhood injuries and deaths in our community, the Edmond Fire Department has been hosting in-person Safety Challenges for children for over 10 years. These courses cover life-saving topics such as fire safety, water safety, pedestrian safety, and helmet safety. In an effort to evolve during the COVID-19 pandemic we are excited to be able to offer these classes in an online format.
Students and their families will be able to complete 10 lessons in the comfort of their homes. We have also added a topic on germ safety to better reflect our current community needs.
The Virtual Safety Challenge will be hosted on FlipGrid, a website/app that is very user friendly. All you need is a computer or smartphone, internet access, and an email account to get started.
Students will complete an assignment, typically watching 1-2 videos, followed by an activity. They will be given a question(s) to answer and record their answers for our instructors to view. FlipGrid will allow our fire department educators to respond via video directly to your child. Our personnel are the only ones able to view their reply, keeping your child’s identity anonymous to other students. Each topic has a unique badge that can be printed off following completion of the topic.
Follow the instructions below to begin!
